If you can build it, it can be repaired. This “Repair Manifesto” by Platform 21 really caught my attention. I’d like to challenge myself to apply this sort of thinking in my everyday life more. Time to stock up on the duct tape! (via PSFK)
I’m always fascinated by how creatives work and develop their ideas. Which is why I loved a recent post by graphic designer Michael Bierut entitled 26 Years, 85 Notebooks, examining his recording of thoughts and to-do’s throughout an entire career. Seems every creative has their notebook of choice. I’m more of a Moleskine guy myself. Great article about how some new magazines are staying alive by breaking the boundaries of traditional print offerings. It’s a great inspiration for rethinking tactile branded content.
I have a small obsession with interesting business cards. This is not only a novel idea, but a brilliantly contexual one for an environmental consultant. just be happy you don’t work for Tiny Art Director. The Standard Hotel is using this amazing piece of motionography by Marco Brambilla entitled “Civilization” in the elevators of it’s New York hotel. WOW.
I like reading and hearing about branding agencies developing their own products. It makes sense given that many modern agencies are incubating brands from their infancy, and developing new products and services for their clients from the ground up. And it’s a great alternative revenue model for an industry whose models are all but dead. Quaker City Mercantile (formerly Gyro Worldwide) is latest example of such a shop. Not only would I love the challenge of working for an agency like this, but this do-it-all attitude and entreprenuerial spirit really inspires me to want to do so much more in my creative career.
I love Hugh MacLeod’s endless series of sketch art. Some of the thought nuggets are hilarious, some slightly depressing, but they’re always truths. |
